I was looking for an upgrade to my existing Yamaha HTB speakers. Considered a lot of options and zeroed in on the Harman Kardon HKTS 65 and Boston Acoustics A26 speaker package. HK have a showroom in Kolkata, went for a demo and came back with mixed feelings. The speakers are very well built, look beautiful and re quite compact. But somehow, they didn’t sound right with music. I am not an audiophile, but I know when I hear good speakers. The HK speakers sounded too sharp at times, without enough bass and the low response rating of 83 db meant cranking up the volume all the time. The BA speakers definitely looked a better bet at least on paper. But the trouble was there was no place in Kolkata where I could test them out. Did a lot of research online and couldn’t find any reviews which were very negative. Called up hifimart’s Mr. Anil and he assured me of service and warranty support for the speakers. It was a leap of faith and I decided to take it. The speakers arrived earlier than I expected, packed very well. Took me almost an hour to remove all the packing and get them out. Plugged them into my Yamaha AVR and bingo! they sounded awesome. The powered sub is good enough to shake the walls and windows of my living room. However, I needed to crank up the level of the center channel by a few DB’s for movie watching (dialogues). Also, the A26 speakers are quite large and heavy. The A25’s are bulky too and I had to reinforce the surround speaker wall mounts with steel brackets to ensure they can bear the weight. Overall, I am very impressed with the quality and performance of these speakers. And 5 stars for hifimart and Mr. Anil for the service provided.
